About Dr. Berns

Medicine First.
Aesthetics Second.

MBChB (UFS)  ·  DipPEC (SA)  ·  CMSA
PG Dip Clinical Dermatology

Dr. Bernhard Louw is a doctor with over ten years of clinical experience, trained in emergency medicine and clinical dermatology. Both disciplines inform how he reads a face: the anatomical precision of clinical medicine, and the diagnostic instinct that comes from working under pressure.

His background shapes what he sees when he looks at a face, what he considers safe, and what he is willing to recommend. The clinical standard he applies to aesthetics is the same one he applied in emergency medicine: assess properly before you act.

How Dr. Berns Works

Doctor-Led Assessment Framework

Step 01

Full Face
Assessment

Every consultation begins with a structured clinical assessment, analysing facial anatomy, skin quality, volume distribution, and the interplay between all facial zones before any treatment is discussed.

Step 02

Personalised
Treatment Plan

No template treatments. The plan is built around your specific anatomy, your concerns, and a realistic long-term trajectory, prioritising what will make a genuine difference and declining what won't.

Step 03

Natural Long-Term
Rejuvenation

The goal is never a single-treatment result. Dr. Berns works toward cumulative, natural improvement over time, preserving character, restoring proportion, and protecting long-term facial health.

The Approach

Assessment First.
Treatment Second.

Skin Movement Structure

Facial ageing does not happen in isolation. It affects skin quality, volume distribution, skeletal support, and the patterns of movement unique to each face. Addressing it well requires understanding all four together, not treating each complaint individually.

Dr. Berns begins every consultation with a full-face assessment across Skin, Movement, and Structure. From that assessment, a treatment plan is built. The plan determines which treatments are appropriate, in what order, and on what timeline. The goal is facial rejuvenation that looks undetected, results that read as the patient looking well, not as evidence of intervention.

What to Expect

How the consultation process works.

01

Book a Consultation

Select a clinic location and book a time that suits. You will receive a confirmation with the clinic address and any preparation instructions. The consultation is the first and only step required to begin.

02

The Clinical Assessment

Dr. Berns will assess your face in full, evaluating skin quality, facial movement, and structural anatomy. This is a medical consultation, not a treatment session. Nothing is performed on this visit unless the assessment has been completed and a plan agreed.

03

Your Treatment Plan

Following the assessment, Dr. Berns will explain what he observes and recommend a specific treatment plan. This is tailored to your face, your concerns, and a realistic long-term trajectory. You are under no obligation to proceed.

04

Treatment & Review

Treatments are carried out in accordance with the agreed plan. Results are reviewed at subsequent appointments and the plan is adjusted as the face continues to change over time. The aim is a long-term clinical relationship, not a single-visit outcome.

The consultation is always the starting point, never a treatment session in disguise. No recommendations are made before the assessment is complete, and no treatment is performed without prior agreement. If you have questions before booking, you are welcome to contact Dr. Berns directly.

The First Step

Your assessment
begins here.

The first step is a consultation, not a treatment. Dr. Berns will assess your face in full, explain what he observes, and recommend a plan.
